Sam Howell trade destinations

Best Sam Howell trade destinations

By: Jake Rajala

The fifth-round pick in 2022, Sam Howell, once had the most passing attempts and interceptions in the same season. Those two things go together well if the passer is a rookie or second-year player. He also had the most sacks against him, as he was sacked 65 times. With that said, there is a lot of speculation around him if he will start again! Well, I believe he should get another opportunity. Here are a few landing spots for him.

New York Jets

I’d love to see the Jets bring in more competition for Justin Fields. Fields has a career record of 14-30. He was also benched last season. Howell could come in and utilize the wideouts, especially on deep-throws. Fields was 38th in deep ball attempts last season, according to Player Profiler.

Denver Broncos

Sean Payton found success with Teddy Bridgewater, as he went 5-0 with him. Jameis Winston also had a record of 5-2 with Payton in 2021. I’d love to see Howell go back to the lab and improve his craft. Perhaps he can be a valuable trade target for many teams after 1-2 seasons in Denver.

Pittsburgh Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers don’t have to spend a dime on Howell. Yet, he could be their QB1! I believe he is more reliable than Mason Rudolph. If the Steelers can’t reel in the MVP-caliber, disgruntled, Aaron Rodgers, it makes sense to look elsewhere. Howell obviously has the fountain of youth on his side, contrary to Rodgers, Kirk Cousins, and Joe Flacco.

Arizona Cardinals

If Howell plays well in Arizona, there is a legit shot of Howell taking the job away from Kyler Murray. After all, Murray has gone 14-22 in his past three seasons combined. The Cards could also get a hefty amount of draft picks for Murray. Another team will have to worry about his upcoming contract, too.

New England Patriots

Joshua Dobbs is a genius, but that doesn’t make him a Top-10 QB2. I’d love to see Howell join a Pats QB room that also has Drake Maye, otherwise known as a player who had a 3-9 record in his rookie season. Maye made a lot of magical throws, but that doesn’t make him a long-term answer. There was a former Pats QB who made impressive throws, but didn’t fit well as a starter. This guy made a cool knee on the sideline.
