Should the Saints trade Cameron Jordan?

Is it time to trade Cameron Jordan?

By: Jake Rajala

Cameron Jordan has played like a Hall of Famer for most of his career. The 35 year old edge rusher has made eight Pro Bowls! He also made second-team All-Pro twice and first team All-Pro once. He finished with 121.5 sacks, 233 QB hits, 160 tackles for loss, and even an interception for a touchdown! I believe he’s on the Mount Rushmore of Saints defenders.

Jordan is well known for sacking former Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan. He has more sacks against Ryan than any pass rusher has against a QB. He has sacked Ryan 23 times.

Jordan hasn’t only dominated in his Saints tenure, but he has been a star off the field. He was the Saints Walter Payton Man of The Year last season. This makes the Superdome a little louder when he makes a play.

So, Jordan has been an All-Pro player. However, let’s be honest. He has six sacks, 14 QB hits, and 10 TFL with his past two seasons combined. In other words, Jordan is washed up. PFF also handed him a grade of 57.4 – which isn’t exactly daunting.

Jordan could still be a quality DE in a rotation, where he can get a break. Plus, he may shine more from the DT spot on third downs. Not only has he struggled with the Saints, but he may want to flip to a team that has a chance to win a Super Bowl.

Jordan could replace Brandon Graham on the Philadelphia Eagles. It’s a win-win. Jordan can help Philly by shining with opportunities to shine alongside Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis. Then Jordan can play with an Eagles team that has reached the Super Bowl twice in the past three seasons.

If the Saints ship away Jordan, they still have Chase Young and Carl Granderson. They have two DEs that are already better than Jordan. They also have Bryan Bresee from the inside to wreak havoc. A free agent pass rusher like Matthew Judon could even be an upgrade from Jordan.

Obviously, I want Jordan to stay in New Orleans. After all, I have a jersey of him. This doesn’t mean that it’s meant for Jordan to stay, especially if Jordan wants to go out swinging with a team like Philly or the Cincinnati Bengals. Jordan wouldn’t be the first Saints icon to switch teams, as Jimmy Graham, Darren Sproles, and Brandin Cooks flopped squads. Of course, this move takes place in all types of sports.
