Will the Boys trade for Shedeur Sanders?
By: Jake Rajala
Shedeur Sanders was once seen as a rare form of cancer. Teams didn’t want to touch him. Well, he’s shown two things since the draft. 1. He’s a normal, cool dude who can do a fine job in interviews. Then 2. he is a gifted passer. It’s safe to say that Sean Payton was right when he said “beware” to the teams that passed on Shedeur.
With that said, I believe it makes a lot of sense for the Boys to acquire Shedeur. They are into the whole “project QB” scene. They have Joe Milton, who they took in the sixth round of the 2024 draft. Milton is like a poor man’s version of RG3 in my opinion. He hasn’t turned heads over the past year.
It also makes sense for Jerry’s world to reel in Shedeur because they love making shiny trades. They may be able to get a weapon like Diontae Johnson or an edge rusher like Isaiah McGuire in return.
Of course, one of the key reasons the Boys should target Shedeur is that he may be the odd man out. The Browns carry Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, and then Shedeur. The Browns may be able to get something in return for Shedeur and not something in return for Gabriel.
A final, key reason that they should acquire Sanders is that they need a quality, long-term QB2. Dak has missed nine games last season, five games in 2022, and 12 games in 2020. They need to carry an elite QB2.
It is potentially a long-shot, but Shedeur may develop like a first-rounder and push Dak for the starting job after a few seasons. They may be able to ship away Dak for the house and roll with Shedeur. Again, it’s a long shot. However, there have been elite QB battles before, such as Steve Young vs Joe Montana.
