Tight ends that could win OPOY

TEs that could win OPOY

By: Jake Rajala

In today’s league, tight ends are often heavily leaned on in the passing game. TEs are often viewed as another WR, especially in the slot. With that said, I believe there are some TEs that could win Offensive Player of The Year. Hence, I’m going to release my few picks at TE to win the gold.

Let it be known that a TE has never won OPOY!

Travis Kelce

Travis Kelce may have taken a step back in the yards category last season. However, he still had 97 grabs! The Chiefs don’t have an alpha WR, so that means Patrick Mahomes will still lean on Taylor Swift’s boyfriend. Andy Reid will be able to go back to the drawing board this summer and find how to utilize him best, whether it means more screens or quick passes. The Chiefs will also play in a lot of primetime games, which should help Kelce.

Brock Bowers

The Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers had one of the best rookie seasons by a tight end of all time. Bowers was third in receptions last season. He was named first-team All-Pro. With Geno Smith, he could have a “prime” that’s on par with Gronk, Kelce, or George Kittle’s prime years. Plus, the Raiders didn’t go all out for a pass catcher. I expect Brock to be heavily used, once again.

George Kittle

The days of George Kittle dragging a few defenders at once aren’t entirely gone. Kittle recorded 1,106 yards and eight touchdowns last season. He also did this while missing a couple of games. I expect Kittle to get around 100 targets with Deebo Samuel out of the Bay area. Kittle is 31 years old, which isn’t old in TE years.

Honorable Mention:

Zach Ertz

Zach Ertz is playing in quite the high-powered offense. Ertz had respectable numbers last season. He had several touchdowns, 66 catches, and around 650 receiving yards. Ertz is most likely not going to get OPOY, but he could return to his Pro Bowl days in an offense that has Terry McLauring and Deebo Samuel hogging the attention from defenses.
