Best spots for Brian Flores
By: Jake Rajala
Brian Flores is one of the best defensive minds in the game. It was sick that he was fired after a modest 9-8 season, which came after a 10-6 record the season prior. He is currently the Minnesota Vikings DC. His defense ranks third in takeaways. Furthermore, his defense ranks ninth in points differential. With that said, I don’t believe the door is shut on his return to being a head coach. Hence, I’m going to unfold the best landing spots for Brian Flores.
Dallas Cowboys
Flores could press the buttons on a defense that has Micah Parsons and Trevon Diggs. After all, he can line up Parsons at any point on the DL. I’d rather see this than Brian Schottenheimer, who has been an average OC for 20 years, be the ring leader. I don’t believe he will turn things around at this point and be an elite play-caller.
Las Vegas Raiders
Pete Carroll is the oldest active head coach. He may be a cat with nine lives. However, he will likely age quick if his beloved team struggles early on. Flores could build the defense around Maxx Crosby, who is their best player. Then the Raiders could also draft a young QB in a rebuild process, which should be required in an AFC West division, where they are the bottom of the litter.
New England Patriots
Mike Vrabel didn’t prove to be a worthy coach in Tennessee without a quality QB. I don’t love that he got another HC chance so soon, especially with a team missing a Top-20 QB. Flores and Vrabel are still culture guys, as they establish a no-nonsense atmosphere. However, Flores can also call a superb game on defense.
Carolina Panthers
Dave Canales is an okay play-caller, but he hasn’t made rapid growth with Bryce Young, despite Young in the building for a couple of years. The Panthers defense needs to be rebuilt. Flores can turn around the CAR defense, just as he did with the Miami Dolphins defense. The Panthers have a few versatile pieces in their front seven, such as Derrick Brown.
New Orleans Saints
The New Orleans Saints could struggle with a rookie QB in 2025. This may put a lot of pressure on Mickey Loomis to keep Kellen Moore. Furthermore, the Saints defense will likely lose Cam Jordan, Tyrann Mathieu, and Demario Davis after 2025 or 2026. If Moore is out of the building, the current DC Brandon Staley is another figure who could take over the keys to the team.
