Outlook for the Philadelphia Eagles
By: Jake Rajala
The Philadelphia Eagles are the team to beat in the NFL. They are explosive and balanced on offense (led by Saquon Barkley and A.J. Brown). On defense, they have an elite front seven (led by Jalen Carter and Zack Baun). With that said, I’m going to take a unique angle and untwine the best and worst case for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Worst
Saquon Barkley is the reigning Offensive Player of The Year. However, that doesn’t mean he is invincible. He missed 14 games in 2020, a few games in 2021, and three games in 2023. On the other side of the ball, the Eagles secondary could bleed a bit extra with Darius Slay no longer in the building. Lane Johnson is a Pro Bowl RT, but he has suffered from injuries, as well. Last but not least, Dallas Goedert only played in 10 games last season, 14 games in 2023, and 12 games in 2022.
I believe the Eagles worst record could be 9-8.
Best
The Eagles have the best WR group, according to Pro Football Focus. If A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith can play toward their ceiling, they easily have a pair of 1,200+ yard WRs. If Barkley can stay healthy, they have another borderline All-Pro RB in their hands. Jalen Hurts should also do a fine job of taking care of the football. Jordan Mailata was the highest rated OL by PFF last season, too.
I believe the Eagles best record could be 16-1.
Philly is rock solid. They are arguably the most well-rounded team in the league. They also have players that can shine when the spotlight is on them. They have injury issues, which could haunt them in meaningful games. I don’t believe that Barkley is washed up at 28 years old, quite yet. Of course, Jalen Hurts is 26 years old with a lot of room to pursue Lombardi Trophies.
