Best and worst case for the Detroit Lions

Outlook for Detroit

By: Jake Rajala

The Detroit Lions were barely intact toward the end of last season. Hutch went to IR after his injury early in the year. Their best LB Alex Anzalone, modest pass rusher Marcus Davenport, and a few others were on IR for most of 2025, as well. With that said, I’m going to unfold the best and worst case for the Lions.

Best

The Detroit Lions had the number-one scoring offense last season. They arguably have the best QB-RB-WR trio in the league. Gibbs is more electric than Alvin Kamara. All Gibbs did was run for 1,412 yards, which was fifth in the league. He led the league in rushing touchdowns with 16, as well. PFF also said the Lions have the fourth best WR group in the league. Despite their defensive woes, the Lions ranked 11th in PPG allowed. Aidan Hutchinson was leading the league in sacks until his unfortunate injury.

I believe their best record could be 15-2.

Worst

The Lions ranked 27th in sacks last season. They sat back and watched Jayden Daniels throw 299 yards and a pair of touchdowns. They also couldn’t get after Josh Allen, who dropped 48 points on them. Of course, the Lions are loaded. However, it’s unclear if their offense and defense can shine with new coordinators. Anthony Glenn is in New York, while Ben Johnson went to Chicago. Not only are there flaws on the Lions defense, but they also play in a division that had two other teams in the playoffs. Hence, there will be a lot of close, blood-bath games between the Lions and their close foes.

I believe their worst record could be 10-7

It’s hard to imagine a terrible scenario for Detroit. They were missing half their roster last season and they still came out with a 15-2 record. They are not only carrying elite toys on offense and play-makers on the backend of the defense, but they are also very well built on the OL and DL. Hopefully, their chemistry can grow quickly. It’s not common to change offensive and defensive coordinators in the same off-season.
