Outlook for Tua
By: Jake Rajala
The former Alabama gunslinger Tua Tagovailoa is one of the most underrated quarterbacks in the league. His days of being benched for Fitzmagic are long gone. He has been quite impressive in his career. He’s gone 38-24 at this point. He has had the best TD% of 6.3 in 2022. He recorded the most passing yards (4,624) in 2023. Then he proceeded to have the best completion percentage of 72.3% last season! His accuracy reminds people of Drew Brees.
With that said, it’s clear has a fantastic floor. He proved that he could be elite in some categories, regardless of who is around him. Tyreek Hill had an average season of 959 yards. Yet, that didn’t stop Tua. He can go back to the drawing board and utilize Jaylen Waddle more. I would say the worst case for Tua is that he splits games with the Jets and Patriots and then gets swept by the Bills. I would say he has a floor stat line of 4,200 passing yards and 22 TDs.
The ceiling of Tua is scary. If Tua can put it all together, he should be an MVP candidate. If Hill can play like the player who was voted number one in the league and if Tua can stay healthy, he put up lots of fireworks.
Tua has the perfect opportunity to shine against the Buffalo Bills. Josh Allen took down the Baltimore Ravens and the Detroit Lions last season. Perhaps Tua can give Allen and company a taste of their own medicine. It won’t be easy, as the Phins got swept by the Bills last season.
I’d say that Tua’s ceiling is 35 touchdowns and 4,700 passing yards. I believe that the young, quirky Mike McDaniel will also call his best shots, given that he’s on the hot seat.
Tua won’t be Dan Marino in my opinion, but he can be the long-term answer at QB. It’s hard to find a QB that can lead in passing yards and completion percentage. Of course, he needs to stay away from the injury bug and be healthy for a whole season.
