Best and worst case for the Atlanta Falcons

Outlook for the Atlanta Falcons

By: Jake Rajala

The Atlanta Falcons have a complex outlook. It isn’t completely clear who their QB1 is (although, signs point toward Penix Jr.). They also need to rebuild their defense. With that said, I’m going to unfold the best and worst case for ATL.

Worst

There is a realistic case Michael Penix Jr. struggles to stand out. After all, he went 1-2 last season. He only threw for 3 touchdowns to 3 ints, which isn’t daunting. On defense, the Falcons ranked 24th in passing yards allowed. They also ranked 31st in sacks! This was a big part of them ranking 23rd in PPG allowed. I would like to see them bring in Jadeveon Clowney or Matthew Judon.

I believe the worst record that the Falcons could have is 4-13.

Best

Man, the Falcons can pound the rock. The Falcons were an admirable 10th in rushing yards last season. Bijan Robinson recorded 1,456 rushing yards and 14 rushing touchdowns last season! He can help his young QB. Just as Saquon Barkley helped his young, dual-threat QB in Jalen Hurts, Robinson can create more third and short situations for Penix Jr. The Falcons also ranked 14th in PPG, which is impressive given the QB change. Another positive for the Falcons is that they play the Saints and Panthers, who both have young, somewhat unproven QBs.

I believe the best record that the Falcons could have is 10-7.

The Falcons could turn heads this season, especially if Penix Jr. develops well. We know he throws a beautiful throw, but can he take control of the offense? Hard to tell. I do love the Falcons head coach Raheem Morris. He’s a fighter and a schemer at the same time. If the Falcons struggle with Penix, they could revert to Kirk Cousins, who could potentially get 9 wins.
