Outlook for Trevor Lawrence
By: Jake Rajala
Trevor Lawrence has been on a roller coaster over the past few seasons. Dare I say that he is a poor season away from losing his QB1 job? Possibly. With that said, there is quite some range in him. He could put up 25 touchdowns if he stays healthy. I’d still like to see him get more wins. His best season in the win column is 9-8. His second-best winning season was 8-8. With this all said, I’m going to take an enjoyable angle by unfolding the floor and ceiling for Trevor Lawrence.
Floor
T-Lawrence may be a first overall pick that isn’t on a short leash. That still shouldn’t give him a pass for his turnovers. He threw 17 ints as a rookie and then 14 ints as a junior. Not only has been a turnover machine, but he also coming off a 2-8 season. Who knows how sad the season would have finished. Lawrence’s key running back, Travis Etienne, is also coming off a putrid season. He only averaged 3.7 YPC and ran for 558 yards.
I believe his floor is throwing 20 TDs and 15 ints
Ceiling
It’s safe to say that Jags fans are more happy than ever before. Not only are there hot tubs in the stadium, but the Jags have an OROY/DROY favorite in Travis Hunter. If Hunter can’t master both spots, he can still be a Pro Bowler at one position. The Jags arguably have the best WR tandem in the AFC South, between Hunter and Brian Thomas Jr. I also love the Jags new HC in Liam Coen, who fixed Baker Mayfield last season. Last but not least, the Jags played in the weakest divisions in football. They should come out with a winning record against AFC South teams that isn’t close to .500.
I believe his ceiling is throwing 30 TDs and 7 ints
In the end, the Jags need to help Lawrence succeed. They have to be more balanced. They can’t have an average rushing attack, especially if they want to use play-action to beat the AFC juggernauts (Chiefs, Bills). Hunter needs to shine in space, while Thomas Jr. cooks them over the top. I can’t imagine that the Jags will keep Lawrence if he doesn’t stay healthy or even have a .500 record. They have too much talent on offense and superb play calling to not have a winning record.
