Where could Steve Spagnuolo head coach?
By: Jake Rajala
Make no mistake: Steve Spagnuolo is one of the best coordinators in the game. Some say he’s the best. With that said, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he returned to being a head coach. He has had quite the production as of late, especially in the playoffs. With that said, I’m going to unfold five landing spots for Spag.
New York Giants
The best part of the Giants is their defense, particularly their pass rush. They have Abdul Carter, Brian Burns, and Kavyon Thibodeaux. The GMEN also welcomed Paulson Adebo to their defense this off-season. I don’t foresee Brian Daboll staying much longer, after going 9-7-1, 6-11, and recently: 3-14. Spag could likely attract a quality offensive coordinator.
Carolina Panthers
Spag would really need to build the Panthers from the bottom up. However, they will likely need a new HC soon in my opinion. They could draft all defensive players in 2026 to increase their odds of success. I don’t like that they could Jadeveon Clowney. I do like their ammunition on offense with Tetairoa McMillan, Xavier Legette, and Adam Thielen. I expect Thielen to retire within a couple of seasons, however.
Cleveland Browns
The Browns Head Coach, Kevin Stefanski, has been on a roller coaster. I expect him to get pardoned after this upcoming season, where he will be most likely rolling with Joe Flacco or Kenny Pickett. The Deshaun Watson experiment really came back to haunt them. Spag would be able to have a Browns defense that has Myles Garrett and Denzel Ward, which is every defensive coordinator’s dream.
Arizona Cardinals
Jonathan Gannon is on the biggest hot seat in the league. He went 3-14 as a rookie head coach and then 8-9 in his second season. Gannon’s defense ranked 16th in PPG allowed. They also ranked 15th in passing YPG allowed. As a defensive-minded HC, I’d like to see more production and swag from their defense.
Tennessee Titans
The Titans took Cam Ward first overall. However, that doesn’t give Brian Callahan a pass to go 3-14. If Ward struggles AND the defense really struggles, they may want someone to build the defensive side of the ball. The Titans were 30th in PPG allowed last season.
Spag is one of the most creative and aggressive DCs in the league. He is also excellent at making plays that are hard to plan for. He is also quite clutch, as he shines in the biggest moments. He could win more Super Bowls with Kansas City, but I’d love to see him have a bigger role, which could still come with a gifted QB.
