Pass rushers that the Lions need
By: Jake Rajala
Aidan Hutchinson was on pace to prove he was the best pass rusher in the league. Well, he sadly tore his ACL and had to miss the season. So, the Lions don’t only need a pass rusher because Hutch is coming off a horrific injury and his future is murky, but they need one to complement him. The Lions were also 27th in sacks last season. With that said, I’m going to unfold a few pass rusher targets for him.
Kavyon Thibodeaux
Kavyon Thibodeaux is in a crowded DE room. The GMEN drafted edge rusher Abdul Carter, who should have Hutchinson potential. He also has a cool sack celebration planned, where he does a Star Wars choke hold. Besides Abdul, they have Brian Burns, who is a lock to get around 10 sacks each season.
Chase Young
Chase Young has a lot of potential, but he’s on a bit of a roller coaster. He is a pressure machine, but he needs to find a way to finish and get sacks. In Detroit, he may benefit from double teams on Hutch. Young is still 26 years old. He had more success with the 49ers than the Saints. Perhaps he could have more success with the Lions aggressive D than the 49ers D.
Trey Hendrickson
This is the holy grail. Trey Hendrickson could find a Super Bowl contender who needs a talented DE in the Detroit Lions. Hendrickson has the most sacks over the past two seasons. Hendrickson has still not come to terms with Cincy. It’s been reported by NFL Rumors that he plans to hold out during the regular season.
The Lions defense couldn’t harm Jayden Daniels in the playoffs for the life of them. How are they supposed to get home to Jalen Hurts and Patrick Mahomes? They need to have more quality QB hunters on their defense. The Lions have a long QB window, so they could develop a young pass rusher like Chase Young and Kavyon Thiobdeaux. Of course, It would be more fun to watch Hendrickson or T.J. Watt wreak havoc in the Motor City.
