Josh Allen vs Tua Tagovailoa: who has the edge?

Allen vs Tua

By: Jake Rajala

Josh Allen is the reigning MVP, largely for beating Super Bowl contenders. Meanwhile, the Miami Dolphins are trying to return to the playoffs. Their head coach, Mike McDaniel, is on the hot seat. The Phins may not be a Super Bowl contender, but they can still put up fireworks on offense with Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and Darren Waller. With that all said, I’m going to compare Josh Allen to Tua Tagovailoa and conclude who has the edge.

2024 season stats:

Allen: 3,731 passing yards, 28 passing touchdowns, 12 rushing touchdowns, six ints, and a record of 13-4.

Tagovailoa: 2,867 passing yards, 19 passing touchdowns, seven ints, and a record of 6-5.

Allen vs Phins:

recent match-up:

25 for 39, 235, 3 TDs, and 1 int. The Bills won 30-27.

Tua vs Bills

recent match-up:

25-28, 231 passing yards, 2 TDs.

The Phins and Bills are division foes, so it’s clear that each show-down will be tight. The Dolphins are ninth in PPG, while the Bills are 12th in PPG allowed. The biggest question is: Can Tua stay healthy?

Allen is a well-oiled machine when it comes to playing the Phins. He can put up sky-high numbers, even if he throws an interception. Allen will not have the same weapons that he once had. I believe he will have to use his legs more, especially in the red zone.

Don’t underestimate Tua. He led the league in completion percentage last season and then in passing yards in the season prior to that.

Ultimately, I have to roll with Allen. Allen beat the Ravens, Lions, the Chiefs (one time), and he swept the Dolphins. Meanwhile, Tua has a record of 6-14 against winning teams since 2022.
