Who may trade for T.J. Watt?
By: Jake Rajala
The secret is out: T.J. Watt is disgruntled with his situation. According to Yahoo Sports, his holdup with his contract could lead to a trade! With that said, I believe the Lions are a prime destination to make a trade for T.J. Watt.
Watt had 11.5 sacks and six forced fumbles (which was the league best) last season.
Watt wants to win a Super Bowl. Well, the Lions just happened to be the number one seed a season ago. They are also led out by a Top-8 QB in Jared Goff. All he did was throw 37 touchdowns last season! They also are quite young at many positions, so there’s a lot of room to grow.
Of course, they have an elite player at defensive end! His name is Aidan Hutchinson, also known as “hutch”. Hutch was on par to have a better season than Watt, Myles Garrett, and Trey Hendrickson! They absolutely need another DE across from Hutch. Marcus Davenport is a failed experiment. He has only played in four games in the past two seasons combined.
The Lions Super Bowl window is open. Their key Lions players are healthy and in their prime. Who knows when Hutch could suffer another season ending injury, or how many more seasons Amon. St Brown will be first-team All-Pro. The Lions should be hyper-aggressive right now. Just as the Steelers have been aggressive at trading, I believe they shouldn’t be done quite yet. It may be best if they trade Watt to the Lions.
If the Steelers do trade Watt to the Lions, what would they want in return? According to Steelers Wire, the the Lions could trade Jameson Williams, a 2026 second round pick, and a 2027 third round pick. Williams could replace George Pickens.
The Lions are third in cap space, while the Steelers are 27th in cap space. Certainly, the Lions are in a much better spot to pay Watt and make him the highest paid non-QB in the league.
Other good fits for Watt has to be the Cincinnati Bengals, Green Bay Packers, and the Dallas Cowboys.
