Vance Joseph vs Andy Reid: who has the edge?

Joseph vs Reid

By: Jake Rajala

The Denver Broncos defensive coordinator, Vance Joseph, is arguably the best defensive coordinator in the game. The best offensive mind in the NFL is arguably Andy Reid. Well, they duke it out twice a season. With that said, I’m going to unfold which coach has the edge.

Joseph vs Reid

Most recent:

Chiefs victory against the Broncos by a score of 16-14

Second showdown:

Broncos victory by a score of 38-0.

Vance Joseph led a defense that ranked first in sacks last season! They were also third in PPG allowed. To prove they were well-rounded, let me tell you they were fifth in rushing yards per game allowed.

Reid has proven to be one of the most creative signal-callers, as he’s had success with Philaelphia, Alex Smith in Kansas City, and obviously Patrick Mahomes in KC. In 2022, his offense ranked first in PPG and YPG! His offense ranked 15th in PPG and 16th in YPG last season, yet they were 15-2.

The key reason that KC was so prolific was that they ranked third in third down conversions. They were clutch, to put it simply.

Reid may have an MVP-caliber QB and creative play-calling ability, but he has had struggles against Vance. The Broncos DC has allowed 16 points to KC in two games combined.

The Broncos have the best CB in the game in Patrick Surtain and one of the best pass rushers in Nik Bonnito. Each defender is 25 years old. There is clearly a bright future for the Broncos defense.

With that said, I have to give the edge to Joseph. I’m not saying that the Broncos are better than the Chiefs. I just simply believe that Joseph has more firepower to swamp the Chiefs offense. The Chiefs could still win by leaning on their own defense or special teams (as shown in the first clip on this post).
