Is Shane on the hot seat?

Shane Steichen took over the driver’s seat in Indianapolis in 2023. In his first season, he led the Colts to a 9-8 record. They had a winning record, but they missed the playoffs. Last season, Indy went 8-9 and missed the postseason yet again.
Anthony Richardson is Shane’s guy and he’s been a bust so far. So, should they fire Steichen if the Richardson experiment completely fails? I believe so. How could they trust him pick another QB early in the draft? Steichen hasn’t quite been the QB whisperer – whether it’s with Richardson or a failing to add a quality veteran QB.
The Colts have been around a .500 team, so it may not seem disastrous. However, you have to realize they have been playing in the worst division in football. The Jags didn’t have T-Lawrence in their last showdown and the Titans were blatantly terrible – which led them to get the first overall pick.
There are also many offensive coordinators that deserve a head coaching gig. We witnessed Kellen Moore, Ben Johnson, and others go from OC to head coach. We could even see a veteran coach that has taken time off return to coach the Colts, such as Mike McCarthy or Jon Gruden.
If Shane can lead the Colts to the playoffs, I believe he deserves another chance (of 2-3 years) to take the Colts to another level. If Richardson shines, they may have a mini-dynasty on their hands. After all, they already have Jonathan Taylor, who is a Top-5 RB.
Shane is on the hot seat right now. If they don’t reach the playoffs in the soft AFC South division this upcoming season, I believe that Shane will be looking for an OC role on a new team in 2026.
