Moore trade grade
By: Jake Rajala
Skyy Moore hails from Western Michigan, which just happens to be my former University. He was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the second round of 2022. The Kansas City Chiefs just traded Moore and a 2026 seventh round pick to the San Francisco 49ers for a 2026 sixth-round pick.
I don’t love Moore’s ceiling, even if Kyle Shanahan believes he can squeeze out all of his potential. There is a reason he was a cut candidate, before the Chiefs could find a desperate trade partner. Moore has 494 yards in three seasons. Ouch.
I do admire the 49ers for targeting a WR, given they don’t have Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk is often injured. I would have rather seen them bring in a veteran wideout. After all, Amari Cooper and OBJ are still free agents. Heck, even Michael Thomas is a free agent who may be waiting for the right opportunity.
I would give this trade a C.
Moore could obtain 200-300 yards, but he won’t be an x-factor in this season. He will be behind Jauan Jennnings, Ricky Pearsall, Demarcus Robinson, and Aiyuk when he returns healthy. Let’s not forget that CMAC and George Kittle are major weapons.
Just as Moore was on the bubble in KC, I foresee him being a cut candidate in SF. He will need to find a way to win with quickness and toughness. He won’t be cooking a defense over the top.
I don’t expect Moore to be the next Julian Edelman, but he could get 4-5 targets if Aiyuk is MIA. Shanny loves play-action. Moore may get easy targets in space a short distance down the field.
