QB2 options for the Cowboys
By: Jake Rajala
The Dallas Cowboys bravely carry two quarterbacks on their roster. I would love to see them add another quarterback, especially with Dak Prescott being injury prone. Prescott only played in five games in 2020, 12 games in 2022, and eight games a season ago. Hence, it would be wiser to groom a QB now, rather than sign one late in the season.
Jameis Winston
Winston is arguably the best QB3 in the league, as Russell Wilson and Jaxson Dart sit above him. According to Giants Wire, the Giants have received trade calls for Winston. I’d have to imagine that the Saints were one of those teams. Winston could utilize the deep speed of Ceedee Lamb and George Pickens nicely.
Shedeur Sanders
Shedeur Sanders is also a QB3 on his roster. However, he has a higher ceiling than most backup QBs. He may have taken poor sacks last week, but he still threw a pair of touchdowns and looked sharp in Week 1 of pre-season. Sanders could be more available for a trade after a poor preseason performance.
Jarrett Stidham
Jarrrett Stidham looked like a QB that could compete for a starting gig on several NFL teams. He had 376 passing yards, four touchdown passes, and zero ints in his reps. He also had a 78.9 completion percentage. The Denver Post nicely said Stidham may be the preseason’s MVP.
Drew Lock
Drew Lock was up and down in his early years of the NFL. Well, he has cleaned up his act a bit more as of late. He had three touchdowns to one int. He had a passer rating of 105.1. The Hawks still have Jalen Milroe, so they could be more open to trading Lock.
Teddy Bridgewater
Teddy Bridgewater is one of the best backup QBs in the league, but he may be worth it. He is a class act, similar to Dak, and they are both field generals. The Bucs also have Kyle Trask at QB, so Teddy B may be expendable.
