Grading the Micah Parsons trade

Reflecting on the Micah Parsons trade

By: Jake Rajala

The Dallas Cowboys officially traded Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers. The Pack got Parsons, who has been nothing short of a player on pace for Canton. Here is a closer look at the freak of nature.

Parson’s resume (four seasons):

  • 52.5 sacks
  • 63 tackles for loss
  • 112 QB hits
  • Four Pro Bowls
  • Two-time first-team All-Pro

Clearly, Parsons hit the ground running and he’s been a wrecking ball since.

The Boys aren’t walking away with anything short of average, however. They got two first round picks and Kenny Clark, who is arguably worth a second or third round pick.

The Packers compete in a division that showcased three playoff teams (including the Packers) last season. They needed a DPOY-caliber player. The Detroit Lions were first in points per game last season. Well, they just happened to be the best team in the NFC last season, as well. Minnesota was also ninth in PPG.

I believe that the Packers won the trade. I would give the Pack an A- and the Cowboys a D. Not only are they adding an elite defender, but he just happens to be 26 years old! He’s four years younger than T.J. Watt and three years younger than Myles Garrett.

The Boys defense is going to have some serious growing pains next season. Not only did they lose Parsons, but they also said goodbye to Demarcus Lawrence. To make matters worse, both of the teams (Philly and Washington) that went to the NFC Championship last season were in the NFC East!

I love that the Boys added George Pickens this off-season to help Dak Prescott. Sadly, they failed at complementing their offense this off-season. They remind me of the 2024 Cincinnati Bengals, as they will unleash a few touchdowns a game, but they will be unable to slow down the foe’s offense.

Parsons will bring back memories of Reggie White, especially to old-school fans. Parsons and White are the only two defenders to get at least 12 sacks in their first four seasons. Hopefully, Parsons can find ways to even improve and go down as the best pass rusher of all time.
