Packers defense outlook
By: Jake Rajala
The Green Bay Packers acquired Micah Parsons, which isn’t a secret. Most people agree that he was worth a pair of first round picks and Kenny Clark. Parsons has made the Pro Bowl in four straight seasons. Parsons had a PFF grade of 90 last season, which was sixth among Edge defenders. Parsons is a gifted pass rusher and a stout run defender. He requires a double-team everywhere he goes. Packers fans are reminded of Reggie White when they think about Parsons.
Parsons will join a front seven that also has Rashan Gary. Gary made his first Pro Bowl last season! He is a stud pass rusher. The former Wolverine had 7.5 sacks last season.
The Packers ranked eighth in sacks last season.
I don’t love their move to release Jaire Alexander. At least they have Xavier McKinney, who recorded eight ints last season! Yes, you read that correctly.
The Packers were third in ints last season.
The Packers have a lot of beef up front, even if Kenny Clark is out of town. The Pack ranked seventh in rushing yards allowed last season.
The Packers defense was simply well-rounded. This led to them ranking fifth in PPG allowed last season. It’s rare to see the Packers have an average offense, but an elite defense.
I have to imagine that the Packers defense is elite. Not only did they rank in the Top-10 of many categories, but they are young. Parsons is their best defender and he’s only 26 years old! I just hope they can work on their offense to fire off on all cylinders and match their talented defense.
