Floor and ceiling of Jalen Hurts
By: Jake Rajala
Jalen Hurts won’t throw for 5k yards or 50 touchdowns, but he is a quality dual-threat quarterback. He is also clutch and sharp in big moments. A pivotal question surrounds him: what is his floor and ceiling?
Hurt’s career low passing touchdown figure in a season where he played the vast majority of games is 16 TDs. This came in his second NFL season. His career low rushing touchdown stat was 10, which also came in his second NFL season.
He has been quite consistent throughout his career. I’d have to say his floor is 25 total touchdowns, which is admirable, especially given that he rarely turns the ball over. He has only thrown over 10 ints once in his career. Last season, he only threw five ints. I believe 16 ints is his floor.
So, what exactly is the ceiling for the reigning Super Bowl Champion?
The most passing touchdowns that Hurts has thrown in 23. The most rushing touchdowns that he has recorded is 15. Clearly, he can flex dominance with his arm and legs. With A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, he can give a lot of quick screens to them, without passing too much down the middle. I’d say his ceiling is 27 passing touchdowns and his rushing TD ceiling is 20. It’s quite impressive that Hurts can run so well. Lamar Jackson’s career-high rushing TD number is seven!
Hurts is one of the most underrated QBs in the league. Due to his somewhat low passing TD figure, he gets ranked around the middle of QB rankings. Let’s not forget how crucial his legs are. With that said, he still has a high ceiling, as he’s only 27 years old! He also hasn’t had a putrid season in his career yet.
