Herbert floor and ceiling
By: Jake Rajala
Justin Herbert is one of the best young quarterbacks in the league. Jim Harbaugh has spoken highly of Herbert. Harbaugh merely wants to help Herbert get to the Hall of Fame.
The former Michigan Wolverine coach has helped Herbert develop into a better all-around QB. Herbert only threw three interceptions last season. Yes, you read that correctly. This led the Chargers to have their best record over the past five seasons.
Herbert threw a career-high 38 touchdowns in 2021. The problem was that he threw a career-high 15 ints in the same season. He did unleash a personal best 5,014 passing yards in 2021, too. His production led him to his first Pro Bowl berth.
It’s quite helpful that the Chargers brought back Keenan Allen. All Allen did in 2023 with the Chargers was record 1,243 yards!
I would have to say that Herbert’s ceiling is three ints and 43 touchdowns. I don’t believe that Herbert will be a 5k yard passer or a 50 touchdown figure. However, he can still be an annual Pro Bowler, especially with prominent players around him.
On the flipside, Allen should be able to throw 3,700 passing yards at least. Furthermore, I believe 17 ints is the most ints he should throw.
Ultimately, Herbert is in the snake pit. He plays in an AFC West division that features Patrick Mahomes, Bo Nix, and Geno Smith. The Broncos and Chiefs were both in the playoffs last season.
I foresee a max of 12 wins for the Chargers. Herbert may not be a future Hall of Famer, but he can still light it up in big divisional moments. I see a minimum of 7 wins in the future for LA. Sure, they have a well-rounded roster, but their competition in the division may be too much to handle.
