Chiefs-Chargers reflection
By: Jake Rajala
The Los Angeles Chargers upset the reigning AFC Champions (Kansas City Chiefs) in Brazil. It was quite intense and difficult to grasp at times. With that said, I’m going to unfold a few things we learned from the AFC West showdown.
Chiefs veterans
I will be honest. I don’t like how the Chiefs veterans played. Chris Jones lost contain on the last play, as he acted selfish and cut inside, which allowed Justin Herbert to run for a first down. Yes, Travis Kelce scored a touchdown. However, he should have really hauled in two touchdowns. He was wide open across the middle, and he dropped an easy walk in touchdown. Surely, the loss of Xavier Worthy hurt their WR group. Perhaps the loss of DeAndre Hopkins hurt more than anticipated, too.
Chargers WRs
Quentin Johnston was on fire tonight. He scored a pair of touchdowns. Not only did he dominate but the old-buck Keenan Allen came in clutch. Allen had seven catches, which led the team. He also had a touchdown. It’s comforting to see three quality WRs on the Chargers.
Hollywood Brown
Hollywood Brown was the surprise player on the Chiefs tonight. He was consistent and fearless. He wasn’t shying away from hits in the middle. He had 10 grabs for 99 yards. His 10 catches were double JuJu’s amount of catches (5), as JuJu had the second most catches.
Los Angeles Chargers pass rush
Da’Shawn Hand was arguably the best DL tonight. He had a beautiful sack against Patrick Mahomes. Khalil Mack also provided much needed pressure. The Chargers were able to harrass Mahomes without blitzing that much. That was the key reason the Bucs took down the Chiefs in the Super Bowl.
Patrick Mahomes running
That had to be the best running game from Patrick Mahomes I’ve ever seen. He even layed the boom a few times. Mahomes finished with six carries for 57 yards and a touchdown. It should be noted that he led the Chiefs in carries, which probably isn’t a winning formula. Kareem Hunt took the beating on 4th downs, however.
