5 things we learned from the Buccaneers-Falcons contest

Buccaneers-Falcons reflection

By: Jake Rajala

There was a gutsy showdown between two NFC South teams (the Atlanta Falcons and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers) on Sunday. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers barely edged out the Atlanta Falcons in Atlanta by a score of 23-20. We all saw the highlights from Baker Mayfield. Well, I’m going to lay out five things we learned from the showdown.

Emeka Egbuka looks legit

Emeka Egbuka looks like the very, very early OROY favorite. Just as the Falcons focused on Mike Evans, Emeka turned heads with less attention. Chris Godwin was injured, so it was pivotal that Emeka stepped up with a bigger role.

Running game

Baker was more than capable of shining through the air. Well, the running game wasn’t quite up to par. Baker led the team in rushing yards. Bucky Irving only managed to unleash 37 yards on 14 carries. Perhaps the Bucs want to acquire a RB.

Bijan Robinson

Adam Schefter famously drafted Bijan Robinson in fantasy. Well, he only ran for 24 yards on 12 carries. He didn’t look overly explosive. Well, hold on. He did manage to record 100 receiving yards and a touchdown. I’d like to see him be more effective in the running game, to say the least.

Kyle Pitts

Everybody was worried that Kyle Pitts was washed up and incapable of being a quality weapon. Well, he did have a fine Week 1 outing. He was second on the team in catches (with 7) and second in yards (59). He can make contested catches and run crisp routes.

Pass rush

There weren’t a lot of sacks between the two teams. Haason Reddick has one sack for the Bucs. Then Billy Bowman Jr and Divine Deablo each had 0.5 a sack. I’d like to see more sacks from each team, especially if they want to make a deep playoff run.
