Commanders-Giants game
By: Jake Rajala
The Washington Commanders dismantled the New York Giants and had a home victory by the score of 21-6. With that said, I’m going to lay out the five things we learned from the Commanders-Giants.
Russell Wilson, where art thou?
I believe the time for Jaxson Dart to start may come sooner than anticipated. Russell Wilson wasn’t unlimited today. He threw 37 times and only completed 17 passes. He also only had 169 yards and zero touchdowns to show for it. He had way too many carries (8) today.
Deebo Samuel
The trade for Deebo Samuel has already looked sharp. Samuel notched 77 yards on 7 receptions. He also had a 19 yard run for a touchdown. His vision and toughness are impressive. I would have liked to see Terry McLaurin involved more. All Scary Terry had was 27 yards on two catches. Zach Ertz did have a touchdown.
Daron Payne
Daron Payne was one of my x factors for the showdown. He is looking more like the player that made the Pro Bowl in 2022. He had 1.5 sacks. His ability goes beyond the stat sheet. He opens up room for Bobby Wagner to roam around lead the league in tackles.
Malik Nabers
Malik Nabers didn’t have a Top-20 WR-like day. He still showed to be an important part of the Giants offense. He recorded 71 yards on five grabs, which averaged 14.2 YPC. He should benefit from a QB change in my opinion.
Paulson Adebo
One of the bright spots for the GMEN had to be Paulson Adebo. He slowed down Scary Terry and he led the team in tackles (with 7). He will be much needed against Ceedee Lamb and A.J. Brown. Of course, he is waiting for the offense to pick up their end of the bargain.
This was quite a well-rounded effort from the Commanders. They looked like a Super Bowl contender, even if it was Week 1. They will fire on more cylinders if they can get McLaurin, who is well-paid, more involved. On defense, they can improve if they get Von Miller fired up, too.
