Dynasty Week 2: 5 defenses to target

5 defenses to target in Week 2

By: Jake Rajala

Week 1 is in the books. It’s been a thrilling ride thus far. With that said, I’m going to talk about dynasty fantasy football. I’m going to lay out five defenses to target.

New England Patriots

I really like the Patriots schedule. They play the Dolphins, who had the worst offense in Week 1. Then they play the Panthers in two weeks, the Saints in four weeks, and the Titans in five weeks! I love their pass rush with Harold Landry (2.5 sacks in Week 1) and secondary with Christian Gonzalez.

Los Angeles Chargers

The LA Chargers defense had struggles against the Chiefs. It’s understandable given they were playing against Patrick Mahomes. The Chargers have a lot of talent on defense. Derwin James was a tackling machine. He’s one of the best safeties in the league. They still have Khalil Mack, who put on heavy pressure against Mahomes. Mack looks like his 2023 form, where he unleashed 17 sacks.

Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals have a tough schedule, but they carry elite players across their defense. They arguably have the best NFL pass rusher in Trey Hendrickson. BJ Hill was also in on the action. Jordan Battle had an interception, so it’s exciting to see underrated players step up.

New York Jets

The NY Jets played a highly motivated Aaron Rodgers and they still got five fantasy points. Rodgers unleashed four touchdowns and the Jets defense unleashed four sacks. It’s hard to not like the Jets defense. They have Quinnen Williams up front and Sauce Gardner on the back-end.

New Orleans Saints

The Saints defense had 8 points in Week 1. I really like how their front seven competes. Cam Jordan and Demario Davis are still Pro Bowl quality players at 36 years old. They were also missing Chase Young in Week 1, so their pass rush should even improve when he returns.

I discussed a couple of AFC East defenses. It’s hard to not love an AFC East defense, as they are young, somewhat struggling AFC East offenses. In particular, the Phins have the worst NFL offense right now. I picked up the Pats defense, as they play Mike McDaniel and the Dolphins in Week 2.
