Brett Favre vs Aaron Rodgers
By: Jake Rajala
The Green Bay Packers are fortunate to have two Hall of Fame quarterbacks in the past two decades in Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers. Favre is a gunslinger, while Rodgers is methodical. Favre played from 1991 to 2010. He was quite the ironman. He was gritty, so he fit the Wisconsin way. Rodgers started his career in 2005. He sat behind Favre for a few seasons. Rodgers grew his ability and mindset while sitting behind the Hall of Fame QB.
So, we know each QB is elite in numerous ways. The question is: which QB is the better one?
Favre has made 11 Pro Bowls! He made his first Pro Bowl in his second season and a Pro Bowl in his second to last season. He also won three straight MVP rings between 1995 and 1997.
Favre won a Lombardi trophy in 1997 against the New England Patriots.
Favre was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2016, which made him a first ballot HOFer. Favre has been open about his struggles with Parkinson’s.
A-Rod has been touted as the most talented QB of all time by Tom Brady. That’s quite the praise. Rodgers has played since 2005. Just as Favre won three MVP trophies, Rodgers has won four Super Bowl rings! Furthermore, he had made it to 10 Pro Bowls.
Let’s not forget that Rodgers also has a Super Bowl ring.
It’s quite hard to lay out which QB is better. There is something honorable about saying the old sage at QB, Favre, is better. However, I believe Rodgers is the better QB.
The impressive part is that Rodgers appears to be on pace for another magical season, which could result in an MVP ring. At the very least, he should add another Pro Bowl to his resume this season.
The only QBs that I believe should be ranked higher than A-Rod over the past decade are Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and Drew Brees.
