5 QB targets for the Vikings right now

QB targets for the Vikings

By: Jake Rajala

The young Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy has performed poorly in seven of eight quarters this season. It should be noted that he’s performing ugly in an NFC North division that arguably has two Top-5 teams in the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions. With that said, I’m laying out five QB targets for the Vikings.

Kirk Cousins

Perhaps the former Michigan State Spartan Kirk Cousins should stay in Minnesota tomorrow. Cousins still has plenty of arm talent. He isn’t decaying like Peyton Manning and Drew Brees in their final years. Of course, Cousins started for a few straight seasons under Kevin O’Connell.

Mac Jones

Mac Jones made quite the case for him being worthy of a QB1 job in Week 2. He dropped three touchdowns against a talented Saints defense. He can hit deep routes and be consistent in the short passing game. He didn’t even have George Kittle or Brandon Aiyuk.

Aidan O’Connell

Aidan had an up and down 2024 season. He clearly has a plethora of potential, no doubt. He went 5-5 as a rookie. He also has thrown 20 TDs to 11 ints in 20 games. There have been whispers of him being on the trade block.

Minshew Mania

I believe Gardner Minshew deserves another shot at a QB1 gig. After all, he did have a fantastic rookie season. I’d like to see him in a offense with elite weapons, such as Justin Jefferson. He is still 29 years old, so he can play for several more years.

Jimmy G

If Jimmy G can stay healthy, he can be a Top-20 QB. He has quality arm strength and he’s a true field general. He will do a thorough job of going through all of his reads. Jimmy G has also been learning under Sean McVay, which can’t be more impressive.

McCarthy could very well go on to be a Pro Bowl QB for the Vikings. However, it would be wise to have more security at QB this season, especially if he continues to be on a roller coaster. Kevin can uplift QBs that see the field well. They don’t need to have Patrick Mahomes-like arm talent.
