Kyler Murray vs Kurt Warner: who has the edge?

Kyler Murray vs Kurt Warner

By: Jake Rajala

Kyler Murray has been a modest franchise quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals since he arrived as their first overall pick in 2019. I believe it’s worth comparing him to a different Cardinals great QB: Kurt Warner. I’m talking about the guy who worked at a grocery store before playing in the NFL.

Warner is a true American legend.

Warner went 2-8 and then 1-4 in his first two seasons. Someone knew to be patient with him. He went 5-6 and then finally went 9-7 and 10-5. Warner led his team to the divisional round in his last season. His team was shredded by the Saints. He sadly got a concussion, as he was blindsided by Saints edge defender Bobby McCray.

Warner was a two-time MVP with “The St. Louis Rams”.

As for Murray, he’s been on a roller coaster, as well. He won Offensive Rookie of The Year in 2019. Then he went to the Pro Bowl in 2020 and 2021. He hasn’t had a winning record since 2021.

As of right now, Murray is 2-0. Let it be known that his 2-0 record is tied with the 49ers for first place. The Cardinals should be delighted to hear they play the 49ers, and the 49ers are missing Brock Purdy, George Kittle, and Brandon Aiyuk in Week 2.

Right now, I have to give the upper hand to Warner. Even if Warner has played less time than Murray, he’s had more winning seasons, and he’s actually won a playoff game.

Thankfully, Murray has the best group of weapons right now that he’s had in his career. Trey McBride and Marvin Harrison Jr. are top-end players at their position. If he can win the division this season, I’d have to say each QB is on the same par. I hope Murray can make a strong playoff run and stand out from the Cardinals version of Warner.
