Should Ashton Jeanty go on the trade block?

Jeanty on the trade block?

By: Jake Rajala

Ashton Jeanty seemed like a slam dunk OROY favorite when the Las Vegas Raiders picked him sixth overall. Well, that hasn’t been the case thus far. To be fair, he is in a brutal situation. Ryan McFadden noted Jeanty was hit at the line or behind the line on 11 of his 17 carries in Week 3.

Jeanty has averaged 3.1 YPC, and he only has one TD, as well. He really gives me Trent Richardson vibes, even if he is harder to bring down in space than Trent.

I would like to see Chip Kelly find ways to get Jeanty the ball in space, just as he found success with LeSean McCoy in Philly. McCoy led the league in rushing yards in a season under Chip.

Jeanty should take direct snaps more often, especially in the red zone. Even getting quick screens to him out wide could be beneficial. I’d like to see more no huddle in the fourth quarter and Jeanty getting the ball against a worn out, gassed defense.

Something needs to change for Jeanty, as he’s the 33rd RB after a few weeks. Jeanty has went the opposite way that we would all like. He scored 12 pts, 7.4 pts, and then 6.3 pts.

On the bright side, he gets to play the Bears this week and the Titans in two weeks. I would hold onto Jeanty given his pedestrian schedule and because Chip may stay up late at night trying to save their Top-10 pick.

The Raiders offense is heating up at the right time. We witnessed Tre Tucker drop 40.9 pts. I believe Chip will have better scripts prepared for everyone. Brock Bowers has also taken a step down from last season, as he’s the 8th best TE thus far.

KC is 18th and Denver is 20th against the run. This should help Jeanty sleep more at night.

Mark Ingram won the Heisman, but he didn’t start strong at the Pro level. He failed to run for than 900 yards until his fourth season! Fast forward several years, and he’s a Pro Bowl RB. Hopefully, it doesn’t take that long for Jeanty to be a Pro Bowler, but it just says that not every quality, high draft pick at RB has a stellar rookie campaign.

Ultimately, he should be held onto right now. Even if he stays in his spot in several more weeks, I’m holding him. I want to see the Raiders fix their OL this off-season.
