Is it time to give up on Ja’Marr Chase in dynasty?

Ja’Marr Chase outlook

By: Jake Rajala

Ja’Marr Chase has been regarded as one of the most prolific weapons since he was drafted. Coming out of LSU, he recorded 1,455 yards and 13 TDs in his rookie season. He’s made four straight Pro Bowls leading up to this season.

In 2025, he’s notched 241 yards on 21 grabs. He’s on pace to have 1,365 yards. Of course, it’s still quite early in the season.

In dynasty, he scored 4.6 pts, 36.5 pts, and then 8.9 pts. His quarterback Joe Burrow, suffered a toe injury in Week 2. However, take a close look below.

Burrow has made it clear he wants to return this season, but it’s unclear when that is. The Burrow injury has made many dynasty owners believe that it’s time to abandon Chase.

I believe it’s important to remember that Burrow only played in 10 games in 2023. Chase still had 1,216 yards, which is impressive. Let’s not forget that Tyler Boyd was on Cincy and he had a lot of targets in 2023. Boyd is no longer a Bengal.

The real question revolving around Chase is: how patient should we be with Chase? If he scores below 15 pts for 2-3 weeks, should a Chase owner trade him?

For 1. I don’t believe that Chase will score under 15 pts in each of his next few games. For 2. I am keeping him on my roster until Burrow returns. Burrow is 28 years old and Chase is 25 years old! They have a very bright future together. Chase is a greek god in open space. A below average QB will find ways to get him the ball, whether it’s via a screen or a deep shot down field.

An example of hitting the panic button would be wondering what to do with Travis Hunter. As a Hunter owner, I’m still keeping him. He can still get more chemistry with T-Lawrence. I’d like to see him get several targets in a game first. I feel they will be all in on Hunter in offense before throwing the towel on his completely.

I would hit the panic button with Hunter after six weeks, so a few more games. If Chase is struggling to get involved with Burrow (for whatever reason), then I would hit the panic button after six weeks, as well. if you feel Burrow will be injured somewhat frequently and Chase will then not be a Top-5 WR, I would still keep him. Browning is young and talented, he will likely be the long-term QB2. Hence, their chemistry will only grow this weekend, and remain intact as he’s most likely their foreseeable backup QB.

I wouldn’t even flip him for a first round pick. Let’s not forget that he’s 25 years old for crying out loud. It’s rare to find a highly gifted WR1. It’s also hard to project which WRs will be the next OPOY. Cooper Kupp and Michael Thomas weren’t taken in the first round by their squads. I believe it would be wise to acquire another second round pick to target another wideout.
