Could Chase go on the trade block?
By: Jake Rajala
Ja’Marr Chase was a popular first round pick in 2025. Well, times have changed. He is coming off a performance where he had 7.3 pts. This comes after scoring 8.9 pts in Week 3.
Yes, Chase had some pts with Jake Browning in Week 2. However, there is no mistaking the impact that an injured Burrow has had on Chase’s production. It’s been previously noted.
I absolutely don’t believe it’s time to abandon ship and flip Chase “right now”, even if it’s for a first round pick. He’s a Top-3 WR in dynasty. I’d put him up there with Justin Jefferson and Puka Nacua.
I still would like to see if Cincy acquires a new QB, such as Russell Wilson, too. With Browing playing poorly, it’s hard to see them lay down and essentially throw away their season.
Chase can be a deep threat and a YAC weapon off screens. They will try to brew up plays with Chase in key areas of the field. Tee Higgins is a modest WR2, but he’s not an All-Pro WR.
Most importantly, Chase has impressive chemistry with Burrow. This is important given that Chase is 25 years old and Burrow is 28 years old!
Chase does have a knack to really shine in key games. He loves to turn it up a notch against the Kansas City Chiefs, too.
So, how much of a leash should a Chase owner have with him? He may be very talented, but there needs to be a certain window for him.
If he can’t score more than 15 pts in three weeks, I would put him on the trade block. I would still command more than a first round pick. Perhaps a first and a second round pick would be enough. I’d try to pry away the best first round pick.
Chase recorded 16 targets in Week 2 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He recorded 36.5 pts, which was impressive. He needs to soon match that score in a game. Until he finds a way to score 30 plus points, everybody mine as well call him Tre Tucker.
Chase can’t afford to only catch short passes in the middle of the field. He has been wide open on deep routes. He just needs more trust and risks from Browning. Chase needs to find ways to break tackles and communicate with his QB about what the defense is giving him.
If Chase wants to make it to Canton, he needs to shine in these types of moments. Joe Burrow has suffered a season ending injury before. He may very well suffer another brutal injury. Just as Megatron played with a poorly performing Matthew Stafford, Chase needs to shine with a wretched QB, as well.
Thus far this season, Chase has recorded 264 yds and a TD. He has a PFF grade of 72.9. He clearly is capable of being much more potent, and I believe he can “go off” in key moments.
