Trade Joe Burrow?
By: Jake Rajala
The former first overall pick, Joe Burrow, was arguably the best quarterback last season. The former LSU legend led the league in passing yards and passing touchdowns. Should dynasty owners count him as the best QB in the league?
Not quite.
Sadly, he suffered an injury that may set him out for the season. Yet again, he’s gone through this process.
This raises the question: is it time to throw in the towel on Burrow?
Absolutely not.
Burrow is a baller. If Burrow can lead a team with the worst OL to the Super Bowl, he deserves to be seen as the second best QB in the NFL. Of course, they made additions, and thankfully, their OL isn’t entirely awful.
Burrow has arguably a Top-3 WR tandem, as well. It also helps that Chase is 25 years old and Tee Higgins is 26 years old.
If Burrow should remain on the roster, what is the point of no return for him?
If Burrow suffers another season ending injury within a couple of seasons, I’d make a move for a different QB. Obviously, having a few season ending injuries before turning 30 is very troubling.
So, is there anything that should make him tradeable right now?
I would demand numerous first round picks for Burrow. It would be hard to find a QB in the draft that can lead the league in passing yards and passing TDs. There also doesn’t appear to be an Andrew Luck-caliber QB arriving anytime soon.
As a dynasty owner of Ja’Marr Chase, I am counting down the days until Burrow returns to throwing impressive deep balls to Chase. Hopefully, Burrow can make a return this season.
On the little bright side of Burrow’s situation, it is a toe that is injured, and not a shoulder.
I don’t recommend the Bengals QB2 Jake Browning as a fantasy option. He wasn’t able to hit a wide open Chase for a big gain last Sunday and make a play in key moments. He was 14 of 25 with 125 passing yards, and zero TDs.
I’d like to see a better defense with Burrow. They need another defender who can make an impact as large as Trey Hendrickson. The Bengals were 25th in PPG allowed last season.
I believe Zac Taylor is critical to the success of Burrow. They can’t fire him if they suffer to win more than a few games without Burrow.
