Is Williams a Top-10 QB?

By: Jake Rajala

Caleb Williams was taken first overall in 2024 by the Bears. He didn’t quite take over the league last season. Well, he’s really starting to blossom in year two. He has 8 passing touchdowns, which is third in the league! He also takes fewer annoying sacks.

Last season, Williams recorded 20 passing TDs. He’s bound to blow by that statistic this season.

So, a fascinating question clouds over Williams: Is he a Top-10 QB?

Williams is ranked as the 13th best QB by PFF. Nonetheless, PFF isn’t the holy grail.

I don’t believe he’s the best QB in his division. I would put Jared Goff ahead of him and even Jordan Love. Love has tasted playoffs in his young career, which can’t be said by Williams.

Williams can’t help that his defense isn’t a Top-10 unit. They are asking a lot from Williams.

Of course, Williams needs more ammunition. They no longer have Keenan Allen. DJ Moore has been inconsistent this season.

So if Williams isn’t even the best QB in his division, where does he stand among the league?

Here’s my QB rankings:

Josh Allen

Patrick Mahomes

Lamar Jackson

Jared Goff

Justin Herbert

Baker Mayfield

Jordan Love

Drake Maye

Williams

As you can tell, I really believe that Williams is the ninth best QB right now. I put Drake Maye one spot ahead of him. Caleb has a passer rating of 97.8, while Drake has had a passer rating of 109.4 thus far.

Williams is still young and could move up the list. After all, Drew Brees and Peyton Manning didn’t play like Hall of Famers to kick start their career.

The best way for Williams to climb the ladder is simply to continue what he’s doing. If he can maintain a third spot in touchdowns, he should be at least a Top-8 QB at the end of the season. That may sound crazy, but it’s quite true.

At least Bears fans can acknowledge that Williams is better than former long-time QB Jay Cutler. They don’t have to worry about uncalled for interceptions and ocasional fireworks on offense.

At least we know that Williams doesn’t appear to be a bust and that he should be the Bears true franchise QB. As for the ceiling of Williams, I believe an MVP ring could be in store, as the Bears push to build around him.
