Veteran WRs to ship away
By: Jake Rajala
There are plenty of expendable, old wide receivers in the league. Entering Week 5, I’m going to lay out five veteran WRs to ship away.
Terry McLaurin
Scary Terry was once seen as an elite WR in the NFC. He recorded 919 yards in 14 games as a rookie. After that, he unleashed five straight 1k yard seasons. Well, things have gone south for the 30 year old. He has had 10 catches in three games. Even with Jayden Daniels, he has struggled to get seperation and outrun cornerbacks. I’d like to see him get a 2 TD game and put this nightmare behind us.
Calvin Ridley
The Titans offense is a mess. Cam Ward can’t get enough time to read the defense. If Ja’Marr Chase can’t shine with Jake Browning, then it’s hard to blame Calvin Ridley struggle to dominate with Ward. Ridley doesn’t have a game over 10 pts this season. Ouch. He’s also 30 years old, so he won’t be around forever.
Cooper Kupp
This may sound blasphemous to the 12th man, but Cooper Kupp won’t be around forever. He’s 32 years old for crying out loud. He’s also not the best WR in SEA, as that title belongs to Jaxson Smith-Njigba. Kupp only has had one game over 5 targets. Kupp will be a modest wideout, but he’s not a Top-10 WR anymore. If you can get a third round for him, I would accept it.
Brandon Aiyuk
Brandon Aiyuk has an ACL injury. It’s quite clear that he’s injury prone, as he’s suffered many injuries already. In addition to Aiyuk not always on the field, there are better playmakers than him in between the white lines. CMAC had a thousand touches against the Rams, Ricky Pearsall is a top-10 WR right now, and George Kittle is a bigger threat than Aiyuk.
Davante Adams
Tae isn’t the future of the Rams WR position. That belongs to the 24 year old Puka Nacua. Puka can also handle 20 targets a game, somehow. We witnessed Kupp (who is on this list) sputter out of LA, despite being OPOY not too long ago. I would ship away Adams for a first round pick. He’s the 14th best WR right now. I also believe Matthew Stafford will retire after this season. This would leave him as a WR2 with a young QB.
Honorable Mention:
DK Metcalf
DK Metcalf has only had one game over 12 pts this season. I also don’t love how he looks long-term. Rodgers will most certainly retire after this upcoming season. He is the 17th best WR, so he’s not dominating with A-Rod at QB. I would flip DK for a second round pick.
