Is Hurts a Top-5 QB?

By: Jake Rajala

The dual-threat quarterback back for Philly, Jalen Hurts, has led his team to a 4-0 record thus far. This comes after winning his first Lombardi trophy a season ago.

Hurts has thrown 5 touchdowns to zero interceptions in 2025. He also has four rushing touchdowns! PFF has given him a grade of 75.3 up to this point. We can’t deny his impact on the tush push. He can squat 600 pounds, and he shows that in the push.

With that all enunciated, a fascinating question arises: Is he a Top-5 QB?

Hurts has nine overall touchdowns, which is impressive. He has the same amount of touchdowns as Jared Goff.

However, his passing yard figure isn’t exactly sexy. He’s thrown for 609 yards, which is 27th. Spencer Rattler has thrown for 765 yds. Ouch.

Hurts is a winner. He can be clutch with his arms and his legs.

Still.

I’m not ready to claim him as a Top-5 QB. Below are my Top-5 QBs.

Here is the list.

  • Josh Allen
  • Lamar Jackson
  • Patrick Mahomes
  • Joe Burrow
  • Justin Herbert

He’s near a Top-5 QB, however. NFL.com pegged him as the seventh best QB. I would put him in somewhere between 8 and 12. Saquon Barkley runs the Eagles offense in my opinion. This is simply true and it can be frustrating for wide receiver AJ Brown. I would like to see Hurts take more deep shots. If he reaches the Super Bowl, he will likely face a more explosive offense than the Chiefs offense he combated in the last Super Bowl. I believe Josh Allen will be that QB he faces right now.

Hurts is still 27 years old, which is a year younger than Sam Darnold and Joe Burrow.

So, what can he do to be a Top-5 QB?

He has 32 total touchdowns last season. I’d love to see him have around 40 touchdowns (between rushing and passing). At the same time, I’d like to see him win 12+ games.

Hurts is surely above Dak Prescott in my opinion. I would have to put Hurts above Daniels, as Hurts outperformed Daniels in the NFC Championship last season.
