Best landing spots for A.J. Brown
By: Jake Rajala
A.J. Brown was projected by PFF as the best WR entering the 2025 season. Well, things haven’t quite gone to plan in 2025 thus far. With that said, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Brown was shipped out to a new team and given a fresh start. Hence, I’m going to lay out several potential landing spots for Brown.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs lost DeAndre Hopkins in the offseason to the Baltimore Ravens. They are missing a reliable WR1. Xavier Worthy is a home run threat, but I don’t believe he’s quite ready to be named a Pro Bowler. JuJu and Hollywood Brown are both on one year contracts. Travis Kelce will also likely retire after this upcoming season. Hence, they need more gifted skill players for Patrick Mahomes.
San Francisco 49ers
Deebo Samuel is gone. Brandon Aiyuk is phenomenal, but I’d like to see another tip-tier WR. George Kittle is also there, but he’s injured too often. Kendrick Bourne had a fancy showing in Week 5, but he hasn’t been consistent quite yet. Kyle Shanahan knows Sean McVay is right behind him, as he brought over Davante Adams to help.
Pittsburgh Steelers
DK Metcalf is flat out brilliant. Nonetheless, the Steelers need another weapon for Aaron Rodgers, who has a PFF grade of 50.4. Ouch. This grade is 50th among 55 QBs. A-Rod will surely hang up his cleats after this season. A young QB could use all the help he can get in Pittsburgh. The Steelers need to keep the gas on the pedal, as the Ravens will start to get hot soon.
New England Patriots
We all witnessed former Buffalo Bill Stefon Diggs dominate the Buffalo Bills in Week 5. Well, Diggs can’t play like Megatron in each game. I’d love to see the Pats add another elite profile to show they can hang with the Bills over the long season. Drake Maye is also young, so he could use more weapons that can dominate in space. We’ve seen Josh McDaniel coach many prolific WRs, such as Randy Moss, Wes Welker, Antonio Brown, and Julian Edelman.
Las Vegas Raiders
I don’t love the help that Tom Brady did for Las Vegas. Geno Smith doesn’t have a legit toy outside of Brock Bowers. Jakobi Meyers is a modest WR, but he shouldn’t be a WR1 in my opinion. The Raiders didn’t properly replace Davante Adams. Smith also competes in the NFL’s best, young division (AFC West). Hence, he needs more aid for years to come.
Minnesota Vikings
Justin Jefferson and Brown would instantly be the best WR tandem in the league. The Vikings young QB J.J. McCarthy has honestly been brutal. He needs more help, to say the least. They can’t live in the past and hope Sam Darnold returns. The trade for Adam Thielen provided very little help. Justin Jefferson has still proven to be effective, regardless.
New Orleans Saints
The New Orleans Saints have been aggressive in landing talent under Micky Loomis. Brown would be one of the best FA signings for the Saints of all time. Obviously, Drew Brees owns the number one tag as the best FA signing for the Saints of all time. Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed are quality wideouts with unique traits, but Brown is on another level. Brown can excel across the middle, which is where Spencer Rattler likes to throw. Just ask Juwan Johnson.
Honorable Mention:
Cleveland Browns
The Cleveland Browns don’t have a lot of quality skill players on offense. After Jerry Jeudy, there is a huge drop. It’s hard for a rookie QB like Dillon Gabriel to excel in this situation. I would say he had a successful Week 5 showcase, as he had a pair of TD throws. Perhaps he can bring back David Njoku from the dead, too.
