5 QBs that failed this season

QBs that failed

By: Jake Rajala

The most prized position in football is none other than the quarterback. A QB may even be more valuable than any position in hockey, soccer, and basketball. With that said, I’m going to take a unique angle and unfold five QBs that failed in 2025.

Let’s begin.

Patrick Mahomes

Hell has frozen over. The Chiefs are 2-3, and they are coming off a putrid loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Mahomes may miss Tyreek Hill and DeAndre Hopkins quite a bit. He has a few WRs that can stretch the field. However, he is missing a 3rd down magnet. He needs a go-to, possession WR. Xavier Worthy may have a 40 yard dash record, but he doesn’t have the same route running ability as the likes of Hill or Desean Jackson. To make matters worse, the Chiefs sit in the NFL’s best division. It won’t be easy to crawl out for KC.

CJ Stroud

CJ Stroud had a modest rookie season, where he threw 23 TDs to 5 ints. This ultimately led him to win Offensive Rookie of The Year. Well, things have taken a turn for the worst after his rookie campaign. He only threw 20 TDs to 12 ints in his sophomore season. He’s on pace to have 27 TDs. As far as victories, he may have his worst season yet. He’s 2-3, which is troubling, especially given that he’s in a very sad division. He deserves more help, however. Tank Dell isn’t a very gifted wideout. They shouldn’t have let Stefon Diggs leave.

J.J. McCarthy

J.J. McCarthy had more hope than any other young NFL QB. Well, J.J. has fallen on his face. He only has one good quarter among a couple of games to his name. He has 2 TDs to 3 ints in two games. Many Vikings fans feel that they should have kept Sam Darnold versus rolling with J.J. Thankfully, he should be able to return within a couple of games. This will only help him go through the growing pains and play more pivotal football games.

Geno Smith

Tom Brady wanted Geno Smith over Sam Darnold. Well, Smith hasn’t proven Brady right, to say the least. He has six passing TDs to 9 ints. The Raiders also sit at 1-4, which is the same record as the Saints. He has a PFF grade of 59.4, which is 43rd among 55 QBs. Smith is also 34 years old, so he won’t be around forever. I’d like to see Smith compete for a gig, such as with the Cleveland Browns or Minnesota Vikings.

Russell Wiilson

The former Wisconsin legend, Russell Wilson, needs to go to a team with a quality defense. He had that in Pittsburgh. He’s not a stat machine right now. He replaced Justin Fields in 2024 and then Jaxson Dart replaced Wilson in 2025. The beautiful deep throws by Wilson couldn’t save his Giants career. Wilson only had three passing TDs and 3 ints to show for his name this season.
