veteran RBs to buy
By: Jake Rajala
As always, it’s vital to have a superb running back group. Well, I’m going to take a unique angle. I’m going to lay out five “veteran” rbs to target in dynasty. I know that seems bold, but it could pay off. The minimum age of these RBs is 28.
David Montgomery
The Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery is trending to be a 1b than a 2a. Obviously, Jahmyr Gibbs is the 1a. Montgomery can do it all. He’s had three games of at least 13 points. He’s coming off a season low carries (4), yet he still recorded 8 points. He’s only had one game below 8 points, and that was against the Cleveland Browns, who have allowed the third fewest rushing yards to RBs.
Aaron Jones
Don’t forget about the Packers legend Aaron Jones. He’s been injured, but he’s set for a Week 8 return. In Week 1, unleashed 15.7 points. Furthermore, he has a second year QB (who is essentially a rookie), so he will be leaned on more than last season. Last season, he had 15 games of at least 9.8 points. Yes, you read that correctly.
Christian McCaffrey
Christian McCaffrey may be 29, but he’s worth the house. He hasn’t had a game below 20 points. He’s had at least several targets each game. As long as Kyle Shanahan is his coach, I could foresee him playing for a few more seasons at a very high level. With Brandon Aiyuk’s future up in the air, it’s especially important to keep CMAC for the passing game.
Joe Mixon
Of course, Joe Mixon is still waiting to come back from injury. He had six games of 20 points last season (despite missing three games). Mixon is leaps ahead of Nick Chubb, who is filling in as the lead back. If he can’t return for playoffs, he should still be a stout RB2 next season. CJ Stroud is blowing it, so that’s more opportunities to lean on Mixon, so they can win ball games.
Derrick Henry
Derrick Henry had a few games where failed to score 11 or more points. Last week, he scored a modest 14 points. He is coming off a career-high 24 carries. They are just learning that he’s not washed up, despite being 31 years old. King Henry should excel more when Lamar Jackson returns after the Week 7 bye. LJ can really open up things on the offense.
These RBs are not only old, but they could all make the Pro Bowl. Even one of them could still win OPOY. A few of them really excel in the passing game. This makes them more reliable to score double digit points. Some of the RBs do have injury issues, so that honestly makes them more risky to acquire. Ultimately, I hope this list helps you learn about the positives of these RBs that may get ignored due to their age. This could make them easier to reel in.
