Broncos RBs: Buy or Sell

Broncos RBs outlook

By: Jake Rajala

The Denver Broncos have one of the best 1-2 punches at running back in the entire league. This RB duo would be none other than the 26 year old J.K. Dobbins and the 24 year old RJ Harvey. The ultimate question is: should each RB be a buy or a sell?

Dobbins: buy

It’s hard to not love Dobbins. Sean Payton loves elusive RBs. He made that obvious with Alvin Kamara and even Pierre Thomas. Dobbins has recorded a season high 111 yards in Week 8. Yes, he’s just heating up. Dobbins has only had one game below 14 carries. He’s a true bell-cow RB. He has four rushing TDs on the season. It isn’t complete sunshine and rainbows for Dobbins and Harvey, however. The Chiefs are 11th, the Raiders are 13th, and the Chargers are 17th in rushing YPG. There isn’t a divisional foe where the Broncos can mop the floor against. However, the Broncos defense is elite and they are going to keep the Broncos and their running game involved.

Harvey: sell

Honestly, Harvey is coming off his best game of the season (where he ran for 24.1 points). He had three TDs. I’d use this to sell him right now. That was his second double digit performance, which isn’t impressive. Harvey had two rushing touchdowns and one receiving TD in Week 8, which largely contributed to his best performance. He had zero TDs before the two TD contest. He had 4 carries in Week 5, 6.5 points in Week 6, four carries in Week 7. I don’t believe there’s a lot of faith in him, especially with Dobbins as the 1A in the backfield.

Each RB is in different stages of their career. I don’t believe Harvey having a few carries a game spells the end of his career. After all, he got 7 carries in Week 8, which was his second most number of attempts. I certainly don’t think he will be traded from the team, even if he should be traded in fantasy.

I still believe the offense runs through Bo Nix, who has really come on recently. Nix had 39 points in Week 7 and 24.78 points in Week 8. He’s had four touchdowns in each of the past two games. Yes, you read that correctly. Nix is a dark horse MVP candidate. Payton won’t stop feeding the 25 year old QB.
