Is Whitworth a future Hall of Famer?
By: Jake Rajala
The 6’7 behemoth Andrew Whitworth was a consistent giant at left tackle in his NFL career. He hung in there like no one else at the tackle spot. Well, besides Jason Peters, of course. Whitworth was drafted in the second round by the Cincinnati Bengals. He played with Cincy for a decade! He made his first Pro Bowl in a Bengals uniform in 2012. He then made the Pro Bowl in 2015 and 2016.
Andrew flipped to a Los Angeles Rams uniform in 2017. Like fine wine, he got better with age. He made his Pro Bowl and earned first team All-Pro in his first season in LA.
Most importantly, he won a Super Bowl with the Rams. Of course, this came in 2022.
His best honor may happen to be winning Walter Payton Man of The Year. This occured in 2021.
Whitworth has tasted All-Pro honors and Pro Bowl honors, but has he tasted enough success? How much should a Super Bowl counter his somewhat lack of productivity?
I don’t believe one Super Bowl is the same as being All-Pro four to five times. That may sound blasphemous. Surely, many players would rather have a SB ring than 10 Pro Bowl or 10 AP honors, but they will still be mostly judged for individual success when it comes to getting into the Hall of Fame.
In the end, I believe that he will end up with a gold jacket. I don’t believe has done quite enough for a first ballot spot, but he has a well-rounded resume to land in Canton at some point, patiently waiting for Stafford to join him.
Whitworth played until the very end. His patience paid off, to say the least. He is too old to push for another Super Bowl ring with Puka Nacua and Matthew Stafford.
Walter has flashed elite personality, which makes him a perfect fit for being a TNF analyst. He gives unique and bold analysis for millions of people. He does this, even if he’s a tad bias toward the Rams at times.
