Is Gore a future Hall of Famer?
By: Jake Rajala
The bruising, north and south running back Frank Gore enjoyed prolific heights in his NFL career, which was 16 seasons long! Gore didn’t stand out in his rookie season, as he notched 608 yards and three TDs.
Spoiler alert.
Gore ran for a career-high 1,695 rushing yards in his second season. This led him to get his first Pro Bowl honors. He made his second Pro Bowl in 2009, as he unleashed a career best 10 touchdowns and 1,120 rushing yards.
But, wait …
Gore ran angrily in 2011, 2012, and 2013. He made the Pro Bowl in each season.
After playing with the 49ers for most of his career, he went to the Indianapolis Colts. He wasn’t exactly washed up when he made the transition. He ran for 967 yards with Indy in 2015 and then 1,025 yards in 2016. He then had 961 rushing yards in 2017!
Gore managed to sneak in 722 yards with the Miami Dolphins in 2018, 599 rushing yards in 2019, and 653 rushing yards in 2020.
Clearly, Gore had a monster career. He didn’t have any All-Pro seasons, but he did have five Pro Bowls. Furthermore, he had nine 1k+ yard seasons! He had 16,000 rushing yards in his career, which is third all time. The only RBs with more career rushing yards is Emmitt Smith and Walter Payton.
It’s safe to say Gore left everything on the field. He may have been able to catch Payton, who had 16,726 rushing yards if he played 1-2 more seasons. I still don’t believe he would catch Smith if he played a few more seasons, as Smith recorded 18,355 rushing yards of all time.
Gore was also named to the 2010 all-decades squad. Adrian Peterson, LeSean McCoy, and Marshawn Lynch were also on the list.
This all raises the question: Is Gore a future Hall of Famer? He made the San Francisco 49ers Hall of Fame. Gore won’t be in the same boat as Drew Brees, as a first ballot HOFer. However, he should most certainly be a lock to make it into Canton.
