Is Myles Garret a first ballot Hall of Famer?
By: Jake Rajala
Myles Garrett is currently the favorite to win Defensive Player of the Year by countless odds websites, such as “Vegas Insider” and “Sports Betting Dime”. Garrett leads the NFL in sacks with 15! Brian Burns is the next closest with 13 sacks. They both have a legit shot of eclipsing 20 sacks.
Garrett is sadly wasting his Lawrence Taylor-like days on a Browns team that may be the worst team in the league. Still, he can continue to create a resume that could go down as legendary. The ultimate question is: Is Garrett already a first ballot Hall of Famer?
Garrett is still in his prime. Clearly. Well, he has been non-stop and a consistent menace, whether it’s been at getting sacks or pressures. He has 44 pressures this season, which is eighth in the league.
The elite Browns edge rusher has been first team All-Pro in four of his past five seasons. In the season that he didn’t get named first team All-Pro, he was named second team AP. He has recorded 10+ sacks in every season of his career, besides his rookie season (where he notched 7 sacks).
So, how does Garrett stack up to a pass rusher that’s a lock to be a first ballot Hall of Famer in Cam Jordan?
Jordan has 125 sacks, 165 TFLs, 239 QB hits, and 66 pass deflections.
Garrett has 117.5 sacks, 138 TFLs, 221 QB hits, and 17 pass deflections.
As you can see Garrett and Jordan have similar stats. The crazy part is that Garrett is seven years younger than Cam. I fully expect Garrett to play at least a few more seasons and break all of the production left by Cam. Garrett and Cam would both help their legacy by winning a Super Bowl. Each DE is on a dreadful squad, so it would be wise for them to abandon ship and join a Super Bowl contender.
I would say Aaron Donald, who will be a first ballot Hall of Famer, will wait for Garrett and even T.J. Watt in football heaven, also known as the Hall of Fame.
