Grading Brandin Cooks signing with the Bills

Brandin Cooks signing with the Bills

By: Jake Rajala

Brandin Cooks mutually parted ways with the New Orleans Saints a few days ago. Of course, the Saints were the team that drafted him in the first round in the 2014 NFL Draft. Cooks is quite the explosive, gifted athlete. The Buffalo Bills are reeling in the underrated weapon.

Cooks has recorded six 1,000+ yard seasons. Yet, he has never made the Pro Bowl, which is absurd. This reminds me of Marques Colston, who is a Top-3 Saints WR of all time. Yet, he never made the Pro Bowl, too.

The Bills are aching for a WR. They had a philosophy in the beginning of the season, where they believed they didn’t need a WR. Well, that was obviously wrong.

Cooks will be the WR3 in Buffalo, behind Joshua Palmer and Khalil Shakir. He is one of the more fine WR3s in the league. He was the WR2 in New Orleans, after Chris Olave.

With that said, the pivotal question is: What is the grade of the Cooks signing?

I would give them a B.

Cooks is one of the best available WRs on the market. I would take him over OBJ. OBJ is inconsistent and injury prone. Not to mention that he has off the field issues, as he was suspended six games. Of course, Amari Cooper already retired.

The only reason I dislike the Bills move of signing Cooks is that I wish the Bills traded for a WR before the trade deadline. They should have known that they need more firepower. The Bills got blown out by the Miami Dolphins, they lost to the Atlanta Falcons, and they also lost to the below average Houston Texans squad.

Cooks can be the deep threat in the Bills offense. His speed matches well with the freakish arm strength of Josh Allen. Hopefully, we can see Cooks do well in pivotal contests moving forward.
