Cowboys vs Lions outlook
By: Jake Rajala
The Dallas Cowboys are coming off a feisty victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. They will square off against a Detroit Lions team that has underperformed. With that said, I’m going to lay out bold predictions for the Thursday Night Football showdown.
Quinnen Williams gets two sacks
The news of Frank Ragnow not returning is heart crushing. This will leave a hole in their Interior OL. Quinnen Williams has 1.5 sacks in three contests for Dallas right now. I expect a shootout between the two squads, and this will leave a lot of opportunities for Quinnen to pin his ears back and take down Jared Goff.
Jahmyr Gibbs gets under 50 yards rushing
I didn’t love how the Detroit Lions RB, Jamhyr Gibbs, performed last weekend (with 68 rushing yards), after his dominant outing in the week prior (where he had 219 rushing yards). The Boys have the front to slow down Gibbs. Not only do they have Quinnen Williams, but they also have Frank Clark and Logan Wilson, who are new in 2025. The bowling ball, Kareem Hunt, only ran for 58 yards on 14 carries last week, after the 2025 Madden cover figure Saquon Barkley had 22 rushing yards on 10 carries in the week before.
Aidan Hutchinson gets 3 sacks
Aidan Hutchinson needs to show up in the biggest moment of his career. He has 8.5 sacks on the season. He won’t catch up to Myles Garrett, who has 19, but he can push for the NFC lead in sacks. He is 10th in sacks right now. Hutch can unleash a few sacks in a game. He had 4.5 sacks against the Bucs in 2024.
The QBs combine for eight touchdown passes
This NFC showdown will be a shootout. Make no mistake. Each team has a high-end QBs with elite pass catchers. They also don’t exactly have the best pass defenses. This game won’t be like a game where Jared Goff and Patrick Mahomes each carried their team to have over 50 points. It will still be a thriller. I foresee each QB throwing four touchdowns.
The Lions and Cowboys will very likely not get the first seed in the NFC. It will also be a challenge to get the division crown in their divisions, but they could realistically get a wildcard spot. That is on the table.
