Demarco Murray outlook
By: Jake Rajala
The former Dallas Cowboys running back Demarco Murray was once the alpha male of running backs in his day. Murray unleashed 1,845 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns in his fourth season. He led the league in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns. This led him to not only make the Pro Bowl, but earn first team All-Pro honors. Despite Murray accomplishing these feats, the Boys wanted to prioritize signing Dez Bryant.
Murray went to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2015. He was the biggest free agent signing in the 2015 offseason. He didn’t exactly bring hell to defenses in Philly. He ran for 702 yards and six touchdowns in 2015. He rejuvenated his career with the Tennessee Titans in 2016. He ran for 1,287 yards in his first season as a Titan. Sadly, he suffered a knee injury right before playoffs. He went back down the roller coaster in 2018, by reeling in 659 yards and six touchdowns.
I believe he made the wrong decision by not taking less money to play in Dallas. Murray had the potential to be a Dallas Cowboys Hall of Famer. He didn’t play with the Boys long enough. After all, Emmitt Smith played 13 seasons with the Boys. This case also reminds me of Michael Thomas winning OPOY with the New Orleans Saints and failing to play for the Saints for a long time.
Murray retired too soon. Plain and simple, Murray still had gas left in the tank. I wish he ran it back with the Cowboys. If he didn’t go full circle with the Boys, I wish he joined a Super Bowl contender.
Murray is currently the RBs coach for the University of Oklahoma. He has been there since 2020.
