Reflecting on the Lions-Cowboys game
By: Jake Rajala
The Dallas Cowboys were red hot coming into the Thursday Night Football contest against the Detroit Lions. Meanwhile, the Lions have been struggling and coming off a loss against the Green Bay Packers. With that said, I’m going to reflect on what we learned from the contest.
Jahmyr Gibbs could be an All-Pro
Jamhyr Gibbs tied the record for most touchdowns before age 24. He shares that record with Barry Sanders! Gibbs has 39 rushing touchdowns and eight receiving touchdowns in his career. As seen in the TNF game, he has impressive receiving skills, besides being a stud in the running game. He had 7 grabs for 77 yards. I wouldn’t be surprised if he is an All-Pro.
Dan Campbell redemption
A lot of Lions fans have blamed Campbell for not matching Ben Johnson’s production last season. Campbell has been known for always going for it on fourth down. Well, he showed patience and trust by not always going for it on 4th down and opting to kick the field goal instead. Campbell also had a beautiful play action throw to Amon St. Brown in the remaining couple of minutes in the game.
The rise of Al-Quadin Muhammad
With the offense focusing on stopping Aidan Hutchinson, this opened up room for Al-Quadin Muhammad to dominate. That is exactly what Muhammad did. He unleashed 3 sacks! Muhammad has nine sacks on the season, which is more than Hutch, who has 8.5 sacks on the year!
Opportunistic defense
The Lions had one of their best days on the season. They had two interceptions and three forced fumbles. They play Dan Campbell football. They were aggressive and playing with a high motor. If they want to beat the LA Rams or Chicago Bears, that is how they need to play!
The Lions noticeably improved their odds of making the playoffs with their victory. Meanwhile, the Boys now have around a 10% chance of making the postseason. The Lions are healthy on defense right now, which wasn’t the case late in last season. I want to see them sweep the Bears after getting swept by the Packers.
