Reflecting on the Eagles-Chargers contest
By: Jake Rajala
The Eagles-Chargers Monday Night Football brawl ended with the Chargers winning 22-19 in overtime. With that said, I’m going to lay out five things we learned from the Eagles-Chargers contest.
QB-RB tandem is all over the map
Jalen Hurts decided to throw four interceptions in this showdown. Well, someone came back from the dead. That would be none other than Saquon Barkley. He ran angrily for 122 rushing yards and a touchdown on 22 carries. 100+ yard games are hard to come by for Barkley, as that’s his second game over 100 rushing yards. Yes, you read that correctly.
Jordan Davis
Jordan Davis came on the losing side of things, but he sure played quite a game. With Jalen Carter out, Davis stepped up. He finished with 1.5 sacks and he also made tackles for loss. He created opportunities for his DL buddies to make, as he ate up double teams.
AJ Brown
I understand that AJ Brown isn’t playing with a dream of a QB. He still should have had more impressive catches, especially deep down the field. Brown finished with six grabs for 100 yards, but he could have easily eclipsed 150 yards if he did it right.
Cameron Dicker
Cameron Dicker is making a serious push as the best kicker in the league. He has hit over 90% of his career field goals and he held his ground in this game, as he made a 54 yard field goal to get into OT. He then made another FG in OT to win the contest.
The legs from Justin Herbert
Just like Lamar Jackson or even Aaron Rodgers, Justin Herbert can make plays with his legs. He had 66 rushing yards on 10 carries. It was quite hard for the Eagles to contain Herbert without a spy. His legs will be the x factor against the Denver Broncos, who sit atop the AFC West and the rest of the AFC.
It was a treat to witness a competitive game on Prime Time, versus a toilet bowl between a couple of pedestrian squads. It was a real team effort from each team. As quirky as this season has gone, it wouldn’t be a completre surprise if the Eagles and Chargers face off in February.
