Should the Dolphins bench Tua?

Will the Phins bench Tua?

By: Jake Rajala

The Phins started 1-6 and were 5-1 over the prior six games heading into MNF against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Sadly, they underperformed and lost to the Steelers. This put a dagger in the Phins playoff hopes.

With that said, there is one face that has faced a lot of backlash for the Phins current predicament: Tua Tagovailoa. Tua has thrown 15 interceptions this season. This leads the league, if it wasn’t a surprise. Hence, a pivotal question arises: Should the Phins bench Tua?

I would hate to see it happen. It seems like Mike McDaniel is shifting a lot of the blame to Tua. It’s vital that the Phins can end on a high note, so they have positive momentum going into next season. It also shouldn’t come as a complete surprise that Tua has taken a step back, given that Tyreek Hill is injured. The combination of Hill and Jaylen Waddle will be seeking revenge on the league in 2026. Let’s not forget about Achane and Darren Waller, who are both x-factors in the Phins offense.

I would like to see the Phins bring in another QB to compete. It wouldn’t have to be a first round pick. They could acquire the likes of a young gun like Spencer Rattler, Mac Jones, or Dillon Gabriel. Competition breeds success.

If the Phins want to get creative and upgrade from Tua, they could try to bring in Joe Burrow. They could include an early with pick with Tagovailoa for Burrow.

At the end of the day, Tua has faced a lot of adversity in his NFL and CFB career. He could still come back stronger from his current situation and wreck havoc on the AFC East and the rest of the league.
