Reflecting on the 49ers-Bears game
By: Jake Rajala
The mighty Chicago Bears travelled to take on the San Francisco 49ers in the Bay Area. It was a classic shootout, to say the least. The 49ers came out on top by a score of 42-38. With that said, I’m going to lay out five things we learned from the 49ers-Bears showdown.
CMAC Show
Christian McCaffrey looked like his old Offensive Player of the Year self. He unleashed 140 rushing yards on 23 carries and a rushing TD. Furthermore, he had four grabs for 41 yards. He was a matchup nightmare for the Bears. The world is confused about him being ranked as the 18th-best RB by PFF.
Luther Burden
Luther Burden was a man on a mission last night. He’s proving his worth as a seccond round pick in 2025. It’s been reported that he’s “okay” after suffering an injury in the game. He has 617 receiving yards and a couple of TDs on the season. He is proving to be a sharp partner to DJ Moore.
The legs of Brock Purdy
The seventh round pick, Brock Purdy, had a day to remember. Sure, he had a few touchdown throws. Well, let’s not forget his two touchdown runs! He proved to have that “it” factor. He only runs a 4.84 40 yard dash, which isn’t that fast for a QB.
Pass rush
It’s safe to say the 49ers miss Nick Bosa. They didn’t have a single sack on the day, and the Bears only had one sack. On the Bears last drive, SF couldn’t get home to the QB. If the Bears didn’t run out of time, they likely would have scored, as well.
Kicking
It wasn’t a glorious day for kickers in the game. The Bears had one field goal, while the 49ers didn’t have any. It was like a college game, where touchdowns were exchanged consistently.
I sincerely hope to see the Bears and 49ers to meet in the playoffs. This was one of the best NFC games of the year. Each team had a dominant offense, while they had the floodgates open on defense. They both have offensive geniuses, too.
